PPD "black henna" caused this blistering on an 8 year old child.
Traditional henna would have been safe!

The following is quoted from a letter  from this child's mother  to the owner of the Bali luxury hotel where this "black henna" was done.  I have removed all  names to protect privacy.   The artist used PPD "black henna" and  you can see the red blisters and sores  that resulted .  This child will have scarring from that injury for years to come, and may have future health problems associated with this exposure to PPD.

If the artist had used safe traditional henna instead of PPD "black henna", this child would have had a beautiful vacation memory, not an ugly scar.

"My 8 year old son had a 'safe henna tattoo' done, by the tattoo artist set up in the small hut next to the children's pool.    You can see the result.    This has been printed in a national newspaper in New Zealand, and will also be featured on a children's television programme.     J**** now has a deep chemical burn that will scar for years.  He was lucky, as the damage could have been far worse.   I will send you separately, as much information as I can find on this extremely UNSAFE and HARMFUL practice.   Natural henna is fine, the solution that is being painted onto people's arms, and is black, is henna mixed with an extremely TOXIC chemical called PPD.   Please read all you can about it, and immediately stop this practice in your hotel - or ensure that the artist uses only henna. "

Quote from Article in the NZ Dominion: (names and places again removed for privacy)

TATTOO TERROR: J*****, 8, from S*****, displays a painful (black) henna tattoo that he had done while he and his mother, C****, were holidaying in Bali this month.  An allergic reaction to the (black henna) tattoos has made (his) skin itchy, puffy and blistered. Ms O**** said the tattooist at the B*** Hotel had advertised "safe, harmless henna". But a week later J*** complained his tattoo was itchy. "I was horrified to see the thing had burnt into his skin," Ms O**** said.
